Type 2.1 Road base
This product is produced by blending crushed fresh aggregate with (> 25 mm < 50 mm product ) which has been crushed to a crusher dust ( 100% < 5 mm) The ratio of crushed aggregate to crusher dust varies depending on the alteration of the (>25 mm < 50 mm) product. Colour is light grey to light yellow grey.
Type 2.3 Road base
This product is produced by blending crushed fresh aggregate with standard palagonite at a particular ratio. The colour is normally a pale yellow.
Type 2.5 Road base (Maintenance Gravel)
One of the important characteristic of the maintenance gravel is the palagonite ingredient within its matrix. It provides a binding agent to the coarser aggregate and following spreading, water addition and rolling it hardens to a very resilient concrete-like product.
Type 3.2 Road base (ROM)
This is the only type 3 road base that the quarry produces. It is produced as a Run of mine product crushing and screening directly from the quarry face. Close observation of the face is required to make sure that the source rock contains both enough fines as well as enough hard fresh aggregate.
